ATLANTA - Voters head to the polls Tuesday to choose their nominee in Georgia's Republican gubernatorial race.
Because voter turnout is expected to be low, this election will likely turn on whose supporters are more excited and therefore go out and vote -- which is why both campaigns brought in Republican big whigs the last couple of days.
Former secretary of state Karen Handel has been embroiled in a bitter runoff election with her opponent, Nathan Deal.
Tuesday a bitter Republican gubernatorial primary comes to an end.
Voters will decide if they want former secretary off state Karen Handel or former congressman Nathan Deal to square off this November against Roy Barnes.
The last couple of days both candidates brought in national republican heavy hitters to help sway the election.
Monday former Alaska governor and vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin stumped for Handel in a Buckhead hotel ballroom.
A day earlier, former presidential candidate, Arkansas governor and FOX talk show host Mike Huckabee hit the trail for Deal in Gainesville.
Turnout for the runoff is expected to be low, so both candidates hope the high profile visits will energize their base to come out and vote.
Polling precincts will open at 7a.m and close at 7 p.m.
The Secretary of State's office says those who voted in the July 20 Republican primary are eligible to cast a ballot during Tuesday's GOP runoff. If a person voted in the Democratic primary, they are not eligible to vote in the GOP runoff. If a person did not vote in the July 20 primary, the person may vote for either party.
