ATLANTA (MyFOX ATLANTA) - For people who suffer from balding, there may be a new treatment that literally colors the hair back on. The treatment involves tattooing the scalp to cover up bald spots and scars, permanently.

A technician micro-tattoos thousands of tiny dots that look like hair follicles, all over the scalp. The idea is to make it look like there is closely shaved hair on the scalp.

The cost of tattoo hair simulation can range anywhere from $500 to almost $4,000.

The ink is permanent, but it can fade over time. Wearing sunscreen or a hat when you're in the sun can slow down the fading process and you may need several tattooing sessions to get the look you want, especially if you have scarring, which can be resistant to the pigment.
