ATLANTA (MyFOX ATLANTA) - A popular Little League coach was murdered and his killer has never been found. Henry County investigators said there could be a key to unlocking the shocking murder mystery.
Reginald Swain was shot in the back while in his yard. Swain collapsed in front of the house next door and died.
"These pictures of the sandals in the front yard are particularly disturbing. They kind of show that he was running for his life," said Max Justice of the Henry County Police Department. "He was shot in the back from point blank range. But from the autopsy results, he only had about 30 seconds to live regardless."
Police said witnesses told them that the van seen leaving the seen was a 2003 to 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan that possibly had a Pennsylvania license plate.
"That van is the only thing that we want to put on main focus on because that is van is the only real lead that we have left from our only witness," said Justice.
Investigators said the only physical evidence they found at the scene of the murder was a .45 caliber shell casing in the front entry way of Swain's home. Investigators said it suggests that Swain opened the front door to his killer.
Swain was 38-years-old and his friends and family called him Red. To hundreds of Little League players in Henry County he was known as "coach."
Police said they couldn't find a motive in the murder of the popular coach. Swain was also the father of children ages 21, 9 and 3-years-old.
Anyone with information on the Swain's murder is asked to call the Atlanta Crimestoppers Tipline at 404-577-TIPS. There is a $2,000 reward and information can be left anonymously.
