ATLANTA (MyFOX ATLANTA) - The man in line to become the next speaker of the Georgia House promised a new day at the state Capitol Monday. In one of his first interviews since winning the Speaker's nomination, Ralston pledged to change voters' perception of legislative leadership and Ralston is not the only new leader in the state House.
Reeling from scandal, Georgia House Republicans selected Ralston as their nominee for Speaker last Thursday.
Glenn Richardson stepped down from the post after a suicide attempt and allegations by his ex-wife of an affair with a lobbyist.
Ralston had tried to oust Richardson as Speaker last year, questioning his temperament.
Ralston's selection was seen as rebuke to Richardson's heavy-handed leadership style and ethics questions that have engulfed the chamber.
The full House must vote for the speaker when the Legislature returns Jan. 11. The GOP holds a 105-74 majority in the chamber.
