ATLANTA (MyFOX ATLANTA) - A former Georgia Tech football star is now on the run from U.S. Marshals. Rueben Houston was a defensive back for the Yellow Jackets and fell from grace in 2005. Now, new trouble has him on the run.
"Yes, he is a fugitive. We are hunting him and we are asking for the public's assistance in determining his whereabouts," said Katrina Crouse of the U.S. Marshals.
Houston was arrested in 2005 in a federal drug sting. Houston was convicted of helping to smuggle 100 pounds of marijuana to Atlanta from the West Coast.
Even though Houston was kicked off the football team, a judge forced Georgia Tech to take him back. Houston got three years probation in a plea deal.
Now, the former football player is on the run. Investigators said Houston got upset over something that happened at his daughter's school. Police said Houston took a gun and went to a family's home and threatened them, including a child, with a gun.
"He threatened the family and the child with the gun," said Crouse.
Investigators said Houston had been getting his life back together. He graduated from Georgia Tech and served his time on federal probation for the drug conviction.
"This is an individual who was an All-American. He was destined to go the NFL. I don't know why he would make the choices that he did," said Crouse.
The U.S. Marshals urge Houston to turn himself in.
Anyone with information Houston's whereabouts is asked to call the Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force at 770-508-2500.
