DECATUR, Ga. (MyFOX ATLANTA) - Funeral services were held Friday night for a 4-year-old boy, killed by a stray bullet on New Years Eve.

Marquel Peters was attending a New Year's Eve church service in Decatur, when a bullet entered through the roof and struck the child.

Friends and family gathered to offer an emotional farewell to the little boy who collapsed at the Decatur church and died nearly two weeks ago.

Peters was attending New Year's Eve service at the Church of God of Prophecy on Covington Road when a bullet entered through the roof, striking the child just after midnight.

Police said someone who fired into the air to celebrate the New Year is to blame for the senseless tragedy.

DeKalb County leaders joined those remembering the young victim.

As the search continued for the gunman, Pastor Lloyd Phillips said he was trying to help the close-knit congregation during the difficult time.

Police have not released any new information in the case.
