ATLANTA (MyFOX ATLANTA) - The world's biggest airline got a major nod from Atlanta City Hall Monday. Delta will continue operating in its current capacity at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport for at least the next seven years.

Some city council members said they were worried about things like competition and Federal Aviation Administration concerns.

Delta Air Lines has called Atlanta home for nearly 70 years and the airline is the largest employer in the region.

On Monday, the Atlanta City Council voted to extend the airline's lease at Hartsfield-Jackson.

"This was about jobs, this was about keeping a great corporate partner here in the city of Atlanta," said City County Council President Lisa Borders.

The FAA has raised red flags about the carrier squeezing out possible competitors.

"Certainly, when you have that many moving parts and it's a federally regulated industry, absolutely. You have the opportunity and the potential for things not to go well," said Borders.

Both Borders and Mayor Shirley Franklin worked to get the deal to go through. Borders said she now considers the agreement one of her proudest achievements.
