The suspected wrong-way driver -- Richard Jernigan -- is accused of causing nine accidents on the Buford connector is set to make his first court appearance Friday, June 19.

Police said 46-year-old Richard Jernigan caused nine rush hour accidents Wednesday, June 17, while heading the wrong direction on the Buford Highway connector.

ATLANTA - A suspected wrong-way driver -- accused of causing nine accidents on the Buford connector -- could make his first court appearance Friday.

People who witnessed Wednesday's rush-hour crashes jumped into action and chased down the suspect until police arrived.

Suspected wrong way driver Richard Jernigan was captured by other motorists.

Police said the 46-year-old caused nine rush hour accidents Wednesday while heading the wrong direction on the Buford Highway connector.

After Grady Luckey's pick-up was hit -- he checked on another driver -- before approaching Jerigan's white work truck.

Luckey said at first the suspect complied with demands he stay put. But then Jernigan began to flee the scene.

Luckey and three other men chased after Jernigan -- holding him until state troopers arrived.

The suspect faces at least six charges -- including DUI and Driving the Wrong Way. Investigators claim he was under the influence.

Jernigan was taken to Grady for treatment.

Jernigan is set to make a court appearance Friday.
