A Wisconsin man decided to celebrate his 60th birthday with a 71-mile run. The journey took the man nearly 18 hours to complete.

Tim Sandor has crossed the finish line of 71 marathons, but he said turning 60 proved to be his biggest challenge.

"Everybody has got a year that's bugging them and I made it through all these years and somehow 60 seemed like ah, I'm getting old now," said Sandor.

So, Sandor ran 71 miles from Duluth, Wisconsin to his birthplace in Ashland.

"I think anything you want to do, if you say you want to do it and you think it out, analyze it a little bit and plan out what you want to do and go for it," said Sandor.

Sandor started running at 4:00 a.m. and took pictures and recorded video along the way.

After making it through several towns, Sandor took his first break and discovered a surprise from his friends. Sandor's friends took him water, apples and granola bars to keep him energized for the next long stretch.

"From Brule to Iron River it seemed like it was taking forever, I just wasn't making any time," said Sandor.

Once Sandor made it to Iron River, he said his wife, son and granddaughter were there to cheer him on.

Then, Sandor said blisters started to become a big problem.

"I got some gravel into my socks so by the time I got to Moquah, Wisconsin I had to have a medical stop," said Sandor.

Sandor kept moving forward to his finish line.

Sandor said he did a lot of walking towards the end but once he reached the last town, adrenaline took over.

"Just that sight alone seeing the Chequamegon Bay and the lights at night knowing that I made it really kind of energized me," Sandor recalled.

Sandor ran the last two miles of the trek to the finish line.

Sandor's family was there to greet him as crossed the line

"It was great to have family out there and come out on a Thursday night and support their crazy uncle," said Sandor.

Sandor said he wasn't sure what he will do for his 70th birthday, but it definitely isn't going to be another 71 mile run.
