VILLA RICA, Ga. (MyFOX ATLANTA) - Villa Rica police said Monday that they had a peeping tom on their hands. Three teenage girls accused the city's former soccer league director of secretly videotaping them while in the bathroom.
Former Villa Rica Soccer League Director Mike O'Shea sat in jail Monday night. The 66-year-old was accused of secretly videotaping at least three teenage girls in a bathroom in his home
Police said the teens went to O'Shea's Villa Rica house to visit O'Shea's teenage son.
"It's very troubling. Think about if this was your daughter. When you go to the bathroom, that's a place where you expect privacy," said Captain Keith Shaddix of the Villa Rica Police Department.
Police said they suspect the alleged illegal videotaping had been going on for years. According to investigators, two of the three victims discovered a hidden camera in the bathroom last year, but were too embarrassed to report it and took the camera from the house.
"When they got home, out of curiosity, they viewed what was on it. They told me they saw the man, Mr. O' Shea's face shown on video as he's putting it in the trash can hiding it. They didn't come forward and ended up destroying the evidence, throwing it away," said Capt. Shaddix.
Detectives said the case was cracked when a third victim reported that she was taped at the house last month. Police said all three teenagers went in to report the inappropriate activity this month.
"[One of the victims said she] actually noticed under the door of the bathroom, a mirror. [The victim said] she could see a red light blinking and thought she was being taped while in the bathroom," said Capt. Shaddix.
Capt. Shaddix said that a third victim confronted O'Shea and demanded the camera and he apparently gave her one.
Police and neighbors said O'Shea's house is the party house of the community and that lots of teens flock there all of the time.
Villa Rica police said they confiscated about 80 tapes from O'Shea's house as well as thumb drives, cameras and two computers. Investigators said once they go through the evidence, most likely more charges will be filed.
"From looking at some of the information and things we've uncovered, we think there could be as many as 40 [victims]," said Capt. Shaddix.
O'Shea's son declined a request to talk about his father's arrest.
Police said the city of Villa Rica fired O'Shea from his parks and recreation job Friday.
