FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ga. - A north Georgia student was behind bars Thursday night after police said he threatened to use the weapons they found at his campus housing.
Franklin Springs police said 27-year-old Terrence Williams, a student at Emmanuel College in Franklin County, was arrested after making threatening remarks in a classroom, and for having the plan and weapons to carry out those threats.
Franklin Springs police confiscated a machete and samurai sword from Emmanuel College campus housing where they said Williams lives.
Police said they took the weapons and arrested Williams Wednesday after they say he threatened several people on campus the day before.
Williams' neighbors said they never experienced any problems with the college senior, who is studying pre-law.
"This was his last year and he was on his last couple of months and he was about to graduate," said Jason Hamilton.
Emmanuel College, which is a liberal arts private Christian college, has a zero tolerance policy regarding weapons on campus, including in student housing.
"We are very diligent here in making sure we address that violation and that our students are safe," said Jason Croy, vice president of student housing.
Police said the sword and the machete, combined with the threats and other actions all led to Williams' arrest.
"Everybody, watch what you say people are always listening and watching," said student Ben Brim.
