EAST POINT, Ga. - Police continue to investigate a shooting that left a 12-year-old dead.
Police said the East Point boy was playing with his 14-year-old friend Wednesday night when the boy shot him.
It happened around 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Eagles Creste apartment complex on Spanish Trail.
East Point Police Detective Cliff Chandler said investigators have yet to determine whether the shooting was intentional.
Chandler said the boys were playing alone inside the 14-year-old boy's home when the shooting occurred. He said the other family members were outside the apartment. Neither boy was identified.
He said authorities don't know how the older boy got the 12-gauge shotgun. Chandler said the boy was extremely distraught when told his friend had died.
Investigators spent much of the night questioning the teenager and his mother trying to determine if the shooting was an accident.
Detectives retrieved the 12 gauge shotgun used in shooting. They said it's possible the gun's owner could face charges.
It's also too early to know if the 14-year-old accused of pulling trigger will be charged.
