Neighbors and authorities in Carroll County tried Friday to make sense of a family tragedy. One man died and two others were injured after what investigators described as a domestic attack.

Police spent Friday morning gathering evidence out of what they called as a brutal crime scene inside a home on Fletcher Road in Bowdon after three people inside were stabbed.

Investigators said they picked up suspect Duane Clough at a family member's house a short time later.

"We certainly believe he had evidence on him, he had blood stains when he was brought in, we do know that the scene had a lot of disarray, a lot of blood on the scene from multiple stab wounds to three different victims," said Carroll County Sheriff Terry Langley.

Authorities said at around 6:00 a.m. Friday, Clough attacked his estranged wife Michelle, her mother Mary Thomas and a man in the house.

"He just forced his way in violently and viciously beat all of the occupants of the house and stabbed them all killing one," said Sheriff Langley.

Neighbors said they never had problems with Clough's family and didn't know anything was happening until they saw deputies arrive.

"At first I thought there might be a wreck down there, but when we saw them messing around outside, we said something must have happened at the house," said neighbor J.C. Little.

Carroll County authorities are talking to their counterparts in Alabama, where the couple lived about what could have led up to the stabbing.

Clough was charged with murder and two counts of aggravated assault.
