ATLANTA (MyFOX ATLANTA) - An off-duty Atlanta police officer who shot a young father in the face did not have department approval to work security at a second job.
On May 5, Tramaine Miller was shot in the face by off-duty police Officer Reginald Fisher at the Cityview at Burney Park apartments. Officer Fisher said Miller was acting suspicious and wouldn't obey commands.
"I already felt like he was inexperienced and poorly trained and now to find out he wasn't even suppose to be over there, and my boy up there, I don't know what to say," said Miller's father, Greg Rollins.
When asked about Officer Fisher's lack of authorization to work a second job, Atlanta Police Department officials said they couldn't comment on the case.
In a previous statement, Chief Richard Pennington said that a "thorough and unbiased investigation will be completed."
Miller was released from Grady Hospital Tuesday with the bullet still lodged in his face. Miller didn't take any questions about the shooting but he did profess his innocence.
"I'm fine. I just want to thank everybody that supported me and believed in me, that I didn't do [anything] wrong," said Miller.
Surveillance video showed Miller arriving at the apartments. Miller said he was there to help his quadriplegic aunt with her medicine. The video showed Miller leaving, three minutes after arriving.
According to eyewitnesses, Miller was shot about 45 to 60 seconds later.
Miller's family and community activists believe this latest revelation puts the ball right back in Chief Pennington's court and that the department needs to take action against Officer Fisher.
