Man Drowns in Stone Mountain Park Lake

Police said a man drowned in the Stone Mountain Park's lake Friday evening.

Police said the man, believed to be in his 50s or 60s, was in his kayak enjoying an evening on the lake -- in the main dam area -- when his kayak overturned.

Investigators said witnesses saw the man go under and called 911 around 6:45 p.m. Friday. They said the witnesses told them the man swam for a little bit but then went under water.

Police said the witnesses who called them tried to save the man, but couldn't find him when they got to the area.

Two divers found him a short time later. Police said once the dive team was in the water it took about 15 minutes to find the man. He was in 15 feet of water.
