Alpharetta police said Wednesday that they made an arrest after a 9-year-old girl was allegedly molested in a Metro Atlanta department store. Investigators said surveillance video was the key to their investigation and it could lead more potential victims to come forward.
Alpharetta police said 46-year-old Scott Taylor lured children by telling them he had a child their size and wanted to see if the clothes would fit.
Taylor was arrested for what police said happened inside a Macy's department store.
"We observed a male subject who would methodically go look for a victim," said Officer George Gordon of the Alpharetta Police Department.
Police said surveillance video showed Taylor at North Point Mall with a dress over his arm before they say he molested a 9-year-old girl. Investigators said that later in the video, Taylor was seen running away.
"This male would take a small dress, walk up to a little girl, hold it up to the little girl and say, 'you're about my daughter's size.' He'd hold the dress. When the little girl would comply, this adult would inappropriately [touch] on the outside of her clothing at that point," said Officer Gordon.
The victim's mother said the incident happened fast, while she was just a few feet away from her daughter.
"If he did this in less than a minute, this isn't his first time," said Officer Gordon.
Police said they're now looking into whether Taylor could be involved in a second case at another mall in Gwinnett County.
"We know that he committed this exact act in the Mall of Georgia in Gwinnett County, we know he committed the act here. There's no telling how long he's been at the different malls," said Officer Gordon.
Taylor was charged with felony child molestation and police are looking into whether there are more cases.
