More than $10,000 in high priced blue jeans were taken in a smash and grab burglary at the Macy's at Lenox square Friday morning. The theft is one of a string of recent smash and grabs in Buckhead.
The windows are being replaced at the Macy's at Lenox Square in Buckhead.
The very visible, very big store was the latest target of a smash and grab blue jean bandit burglary.
About 80 pairs of blue jeans worth around $10,000 were hauled out of the store around 3:30 a.m. as the alarm sounded but before police could get on scene.
Atlanta police said they do have surveillance video that shows nine men -- with their faces covered -- break in and head out with the jeans. They aren't sharing that video with the public
It's a problem they've seen over and over lately in Buckhead.
The un-official mayor of Buckhead -- Buckhead Coalition President Sam Massell asked neighbors and residents to step up and help store owners and police.
"What I would do is plead with the public to keep their eyes and ears open because if you're out at night that's what's really going to help. If you see something suspicious to immediately call 911," said Sam Massell.
Across the street from Lenox Mall, Blue Genes is closed up – the store is empty.
After eight years in business, they haven't opened back up since suffering their seventh smash and grab burglary earlier this month.
Down the street, Filene's Basement on Peachtree Road has been hit multiple times by smash and grab burglars in the past few months.
Massell said while Buckhead is being hit particularly hard recently, the problem is everywhere.
"We're in touch with the police department. They're doing all they know how to do this is not just happening in Atlanta but other cities as well," said Massell.
The question now is how to stop it.
Atlanta police said they don't know if the recent Buckhead smash and grabs are connected or if there are separate crews breaking into businesses.
