RALEIGH, N.C. (MyFOXATLANTA.COM) - Every year, thousands of Americans with blood-related cancers undergo bone marrow transplants in hopes of a cure. At North Carolina State University, doctors are using the same technology used to treat dogs with cancer.
Back in the 1970's, researchers originally tested bone marrow transplants on dogs before using them on people.
Now, that research has come full circle. Doctors at the N.C. State College of Veterinary Medicine are using stem cell transplants to try and help sick dogs all over the country, like a golden retriever named Cody.
