Two Georgia Tech students were the victims of a carjacking and robbery early Friday morning. Atlanta police said the suspects may be linked to a deadly police shooting in south Fulton County that happened several hours later.
Investigators said two men approached a Georgia Tech student around midnight on Lynch Street near McMillan Street. Police said the men showed the victim a gun and demanded his car, a gold four-door Honda with Georgia license tag 8969-ARX.
The suspects fled the scene and left the student on the street. Police said the student ran into his roommate shortly after the carjacking, and the gunmen returned with another man and robbed both students of their valuables.
The suspects fled the scene a second time.
Police said they caught up to what are believed to be the suspects in the carjacking and robbery around 4 a.m. as they pulled into the Vesta Gardens apartments, off Washington Street in south Fulton County.
Investigators said the men in the car jumped out and started running.
Police said they chased the men and that is when one of the men pulled out a gun. An officer shot and killed the man. Two other men were taken into custody.
Neither the names of the suspects nor the officer involved in the shooting have been released.
Investigators have not said what linked the Fulton County shooting to the carjacking incident.
There has been no word on if the student's stolen vehicle has been recovered.
