MARIETTA, Ga. - Several people are recovering Monday after a deck collapse in Marietta. Officials say it happened at a Fourth of July celebration, and at least five people went to the hospital with injuries.
Cobb fire officials say the victims, who were all adults, were having a cookout on Sunday night when the deck they were standing on suddenly collapsed. That sent them crashing 10 feet to the ground.
Investigators say the deck pulled away from a wall and then fell back toward the home, landing on top of the victims.
By the time fire crews arrived, the victims had gotten out from under the deck. Fire officials would not comment on the extent of the injuries but say everyone is expected to be okay.
The victims were rushed to Kennestone Hospital where they were treated and released.
Authorities have not released the names of the victims.
The collapse is under investigation.
