DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. (MyFOX ATLANTA) - There were new clues Thursday night in the murder of a Decatur man who was gunned down while taking his children to school. Thirty-two-year-old Francisco Martinez was shot to death during an attempted robbery in March.

Investigators said Martinez had just dropped off his children at Briarcliff Elementary School.

Martinez's wife Irma said she and her 12-year-old daughter were in their truck in front of their home just across the street from the school when her husband was shot to death.

Irma Martinez said a man stepped out from behind a car and her husband told her to move back so she grabbed her daughter and moved away from the truck. Martinez said she heard a lot of gunshots.

Homicide investigators released a photo of a black jacket like the one they said the man who shot Martinez was wearing. A Los Angeles Dodgers jacket was also found not far from the crime scene and police said it belonged to a second gunman.

Homicide Detective Rod Bryant said Francisco Martinez was targeted because he was a supervisor at a painting company where cash payments are common.

"While in that position, he received tremendous responsibility in that position it possibly could have made him a target," said Det. Bryant.

Homicide investigators said Francisco Martinez had been ambushed before. Martinez's wife said her husband had been robbed three times in two years at different locations.

Investigators said they hoped a $12,000 reward in the case will help lead them to the killer.
