ATLANTA (FOX 5) – A community joined together Saturday to help the mother of a high school football star who was gunned down while walking home from a MARTA bus stop.
Volunteers dug, painted and pitched in to help a woman who has been through the unimaginable pain of losing a child.
"I'm overjoyed, these are tears of happiness today," said Kyle Moore's mother, Lynn Carter.
Seventeen-year-old Kyle Moore was a football star and Washington High School when he was gunned down, just blocks away from his Sylvan Road home in May.
Moore was walking back from the Lakewood MARTA station when he was shot and killed during a robbery.
"People say why would this happen to such a beautiful young man," said Carter.
People gathered Saturday to help a mother whose strength has been an inspiration and remember a young man whose story touched their hearts.
"We're hoping that this is going to help lift her mentally," said Joyce Sheperd of the Atlanta City Council.
Carter's neighbors, Moore's friends and even people that had never met Moore or his family gathered to offer much-needed love and care to the Moore family home.
"Love touches so many people and his love has blossomed over into touching so many people's heart," said Carter.
The gift of time and love made Carter proud.
"I'm thinking a lot about him and that makes me feel good, thank you so much," said Carter.
