Another college student ended up face-to-face with a gun. Atlanta police said Tuesday that gunmen stormed into a Buckhead home and attacked the latest victim in a series of armed robberies targeting area college students.
"We're terrified and [stupefied]. My son goes to Georgia State. He's an honor student, he's on the dean's list," said the victim's mother, who asked not to be identified.
The Atlanta mother was trying to make sense of why her son was face-to-face with gunmen in the Buckhead home he's renting.
Police said the robbery happened just before 3:00 a.m. Tuesday, when someone knocked on the victim's Peachtree Drive door.
"They stuck a gun in his face. Three of them came in and they kept telling him they would kill him," said the woman.
The mother said the robbers were desperate for money and ransacked the house looking for cash and even became angry when her son couldn't produce any.
"They took everything electronic, TVs, cell phones, iPods, laptop," said the victim's mother.
Police said the thieves also took off with the student's Yukon Denali. The SUV was located in the West End neighborhood minutes later by its OnStar security system.
Although, the 23-year-old was not hurt, his mother said the mental anguish has taken a toll.
"He's very uneasy about staying here. That's why I'm here getting his books. He's scared and he doesn't want to come back here," said the victim's mother.
