COBB COUNTY, Ga. (MyFOX ATLANTA) - Several schools across the state are cracking down on student drinking and drug abuse. Students who are caught breaking the rules in Cobb County may face stiff penalties, including being pulled from extracurricular activities.
Drinking, smoking and doing drugs will meet harsher punishment in Cobb County schools this fall.
The school board approved suspension from sports and extracurricular activities for breaking the rules during the school year and even over the summer, whether on campus or off.
For a first offense, if a student is caught using drugs, alcohol, inhalants or a misdemeanor DUI they face a 25 day suspension, which includes both practice and regular season games. The student also faces a suspension from at least 30 percent of regular season games, and mandatory enrollment in a drug treatment program.
