CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. (MyFOX ATLANTA) - Hundreds turned out Tuesday night in Clayton County to protest proposed furloughs for police and firefighters.
A public hearing was held in Clayton County to give residents an opportunity to respond to the proposed furloughs.
The majority of residents who attended the hearing said they would rather have their taxes raised than see cuts to pubic safety.
Commissioner Eldrin Bell said the furloughs were necessary due to revenue shortfalls and decreased property values.
County officials said the county is $7 million in the red.
