A black bear was spotted in Hogansville late Thursday morning.

A member of the Price family took a picture of the bear next to their house.

Angela Price said the bear was "pretty big."

Information on Georgia's DNR site says "a black bear sighting in an urban area, even in metro Atlanta, is not altogether unusual, especially during the springtime. That's because during the Spring and Summer, young male bears on their own for the first time are experiencing territorial competition with other adult male bears."

Price said the bear was cornered in a park on Johnson Street in Hogansville. DNR officials said the bear is in a tree.

Authorities are keeping people away while they try to figure out how to safely take the bear away.

Kevin Kramer, DNR region supervisor said "DNR policy will not allow us to shoot or drug them in a tree. The goal is to get it out of the tree on its own and then drug it on the ground -- dart it with tranquilizers and transport it."
