ATLANTA - Atlanta firefighters battled a house fire on Whiteford Avenue near Hosea Williams Drive early Friday morning.
Flames at one time shot through the roof.
Firefighters said they had to pull back for a time due to the intesity of the flames.
Firefighters said the homeowner -- Emma Lee Lawson -- was inside the home and was helped out by a neighbor. Officials said at one point it was believed that two others were inside the home based on what the neighbor had told them.
It was later learned that Lawson did not know that her daughter and friend had gone out hence the initial concern during the fire that two others may have been inside the home.
Fire officials did say that two dogs died in the fire.
No word on the cause of the fire.
